North Parcel
The North Parcel is a 45-acre portion of the OII site, north of the 60 freeway. The City of Monterey Park plans a retail commercial center on this site, which includes the portion of the North Parcel that contains landfill waste. Since May 2004, NCI has worked with EPA and qualified developers to implement site preparation for the whole site (see FAQs for more information on this).

Leachate Treatment Plant (LTP) and Thermal Destruction Unit (TDF)
The LTP and TDF (sometimes referred to as the Landfill Gas Treatment Facility or LFGTS) treat the leachate, or landfill liquids, and gas from the landfill. Landfill gas is destroyed in thermal oxidizers in order to remove gases and odors. Landfill leachate is treated and sent to Los Angeles County sanitation facilities via a separate pipeline.
South Parcel
The South Parcel, on the south side of the 60 Freeway, contains the closed landfill on 145 acres. NCI is responsible for ongoing remediation, monitoring and maintenance of the landfill. The landfill clean up is expected to continue for many years.
